NEW JOURNAL AND GUIDE ENDORSES JODY WAGNER
BECOMES SECOND AFRICAN AMERICAN PAPER TO SUPPORT WAGNER
RICHMOND – Today, the New Journal and Guide announced its endorsement of Jody Wagner for Lt. Governor. The New Journal and Guide is Virginia’s oldest Black weekly newspaper, and has served the Hampton Roads community since 1910. It is the second major African American paper to support Wagner, joining the Richmond Free Press.
In their endorsement, they cited Wagner’s experience in the Warner and Kaine administrations, her background as a small business owner, and her detailed knowledge of the issues facing Hampton Roads.
Said the paper, “Jody has shown her ability at the state level as Treasurer under Gov. Mark Warner and as our first female Secretary of Finance, appointed by Gov. Tim Kaine. In these positions, she was a key part of the teams that put Virginia back on the right track during the past two Democratic administrations.”
It continued, “Hampton Roads needs Jody’s voice of reason, competence and professionalism in Richmond where she will represent all of the Commonwealth well.”

Vote Jody Wagner
Governor Terry McAuliffe will need the support of a strong team mate that will be in the form of Jody Wagner. Jody has shown her ability at the state level as Treasurer under Gov. Mark Warner and as our first female Secretary of Finance, appointed by Gov. Tim Kaine. In these positions, she was a key part of the teams that put Virginia back on the right track during the past two Democratic administrations.
Jody is also a business owner which gives her a sensitivity to the challenges that business owners face, especially small businesses.
Significantly, Jody Wagner is a Hampton Roads resident-a Virginia Beach “home girl”, in the vernacular of today’s youth. She knows intimately who we are in Hampton Roads and what we need.
Now, we need her leadership in Richmond. While the state’s two other major regions-Richmond and Northern Virginia-seem to bask in their regional identities, Hampton Roads-or is it Tidewater?-often struggles for respect on the Richmond political radar. (If we don’t know who we are, how can we expect those outside to know?)
Hampton Roads needs Jody’s voice of reason, competence and professionalism in Richmond where she will represent all of the Commonwealth well.
