RICHMOND – Three civics groups from around the Commonwealth have endorsed Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor. The Danville Voters League, the Hanover Civics Association, and the Businesses Supporting Minority Candidates (BSMC), all cited Wagner’s work to create opportunities for minorities throughout the Commonwealth.
RICHMOND – Today the Richmond Free Press, the state’s largest-circulating African American newspaper, endorsed Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor.
RICHMOND – In case you missed it, today the Roanoke Times joined papers from across the Commonwealth in endorsing Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor. The paper said Wagner would bring a “trove of useful knowledge and experience to the job,” and was “by far the stronger choice.” Citing her experience in the Warner and Kaine administrations, the Times said she “she turned her razor-sharp mind to getting Virginia’s fiscal house back in order,” and “brought the same nonpartisan fiscal discipline that was the hallmark of those years to the job of secretary of finance.”
ROSSLYN – Today, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and Jody Wagner, the Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor, hosted a roundtable discussion with members of the business community in Rosslyn. From 2006-2008, Wagner served as Virginia’s first female Secretary of Finance, working with Governor Kaine to maintain the business environment that resulted has resulted in eight “Best State for Business” awards, as well as crafting the landmark Higher Education Investment Package in 2008.
RICHMOND – Jody Wagner, the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor, released the following statement today regarding the announcement by International Paper that it will close its mill in Isle of Wight County, putting 1,100 Virginians out of work in 2010.
RICHMOND – IN CASE YOU MISSED IT, WAVY-TV 10 in Hampton Roads last night produced their first “Truth Tracker” of the Lieutenant Governor’s race, fact-checking the most recent television ads for Jody Wagner and Bill Bolling. Their conclusion: Bolling’s charges were “FALSE,” while Wagner’s ad highlighting Bolling’s absentee record was “TRUE.” WAVY-TV joins newspapers across the Commonwealth-from the Washington Post to the Richmond Times Dispatch-in dismissing Bolling’s baseless attacks. RICHMOND – In case you missed it, Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor Jody Wagner was endorsed today by The Washington Post. The paper cited her strong record of fiscal management during the Warner and Kaine administrations, noting that “She is easily the better choice as Virginia’s next lieutenant governor and would represent a sharp improvement over the incumbent Republican seeking reelection, Bill Bolling.”
RICHMOND – The Virginia NOW PAC endorsed Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor. Virginia NOW PAC cited Wagner as being a role model for young women through out the Commonwealth. If elected, Wagner would become Virginia’s first female Lieutenant Governor and only the second woman ever, the first in over 20 years, to be elected to statewide office in Virginia.
NORFOLK – The Hampton Roads Business PAC (HRBizPAC) has endorsed Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor. The Business PAC is a public policy committee of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. Wagner, a 27-year resident of Virginia Beach and a small business owner, has served as Treasurer and Secretary of Finance since 2001. The BizPAC cited her work in state government, where she played a key role in implementing the pro-business policies that led to Virginia being named the “Best State for Business” eight times in the last four years.
RICHMOND – Today, in coordination with the beginning of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor Jody Wagner unveiled her agenda to help Virginians with disabilities. The first statewide candidate to release a comprehensive plan dealing with disabilities, Wagner pledged to protect rights and improve quality of life of Virginians living with disabilities.

VIRGINIA BEACH – At an event this morning in Virginia Beach, Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor Jody Wagner announced the “Republicans and Independents for Wagner” steering committee. The committee, comprised of twenty-one Republicans and Independents from throughout the Commonwealth, is led by Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms, Fredericksburg Mayor Tom Tomzak, Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam, former Senator John Chichester, former Senator H. Russell “Russ” Potts, and former Delegates Robert Bloxom of Accomack, L. Preston Bryant, Jr. of Lynchburg, and Katherine Waddell of Richmond. Wagner’s broad bipartisan support underscores her ability to work on both sides of the aisle to produce real solutions for Virginia’s families.
“I’m sorry that Bill has decided to play politics instead of participate in the Prince William 100 debate this Thursday as we’d both previously agreed. Despite our opposition to the last minute rule change, we offered what we hoped would be a compromise that suggested the same terms of previous down-ballot debates this year.
RICHMOND – Jody Wagner today reaffirmed her commitment to attend the first debate of the Lt. Governor campaign this Thursday, despite a threat by Bill Bolling to pull out of the event at the last minute.
RICHMOND – Today, at an event held in Richmond, 100 veterans endorsed Jody Wagner for Lt. Governor, citing her commitment to fighting for Virginia’s veterans and military families. Also at the event, Wagner unveiled her “Contract with Virginia Veterans,” a detailed set of policy proposals aimed at aiding Virginia veterans and their families.
RICHMOND – Today, the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters announced their endorsements of Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor. The groups cited Wagner’s service in the Warner and Kaine administrations, as well as her commitment to helping build a better Virginia by advocating for healthy, livable communities. Wagner has called for creating new jobs in the Commonwealth through a commitment to renewable energy, stressing the need for wind, solar, and biomass energy production.
RICHMOND – Today, Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor Jody Wagner called on colleges and universities in Virginia to maintain a flexible policy toward recipients of GI Bill grants in the coming weeks, many of whom have yet to receive their benefits. The GI Bill, championed by Senator Jim Webb, provides education funding for hundreds of thousands of recent veterans across the country. However, the program has been so successful that there’s currently a backlog of over 210,000 claims that have yet to be processed. With classes starting at many schools in the next two weeks-and final tuition bills due-many veterans could find themselves without the funds they need to remain registered.
RICHMOND – Today, Democratic Nominee for Lt. Governor Jody Wagner was endorsed by the Virginia Education Association at an event in Richmond. Speaking to a group of educators attending a roundtable event led by Wagner, Dr. Kitty J. Boitnott, Chair of the VEA Fund for Children and Public Education, cited Wagner’s long-standing commitment to public education, saying “We believe Mrs. Wagner’s commitment to public education, when combined with her knowledge of Virginia’ budget, will make her an integral part of the leadership team we need to make public education Virginia’s top priority.”
RICHMOND – Today, Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor Jody Wagner announced her acceptance of invitations to four debates and forums with Lt. Governor Bill Bolling in the fall. The campaign accepted invitations from Virginia Votes, the Prince William Committee of 100, the Young Lawyers Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Association.

RICHMOND – Today, Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor Jody Wagner challenged Bill Bolling to a series of debates across the Commonwealth, to present voters with a clear choice in November. Wagner has called for one debate per month for the remainder of the campaign, each taking place in a different region of Virginia. The format and rules would be agreed upon by the two candidates and campaigns.
RICHMOND – Today 26 more local Democratic Party chairs endorsed Jody Wagner for Lieutenant Governor, just four days before the primary election. They were joined by an additional seven local elected leaders. These dedicated party volunteers and local leaders will add to Wagner’s statewide grassroots organization in advance of Tuesday’s primary election.
RICHMOND – Today, the New Journal and Guide announced its endorsement of Jody Wagner for Lt. Governor. The New Journal and Guide is Virginia’s oldest Black weekly newspaper, and has served the Hampton Roads community since 1910. It is the second major African American paper to support Wagner, joining the Richmond Free Press.
RICHMOND – Today, lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Jody Wagner released two new radio advertisements, which will air in the Richmond and Hampton Roads markets. Entitled “Experience,” the 60-second spots feature Congressman Bobby Scott, and highlight new endorsements from the Richmond Free Press, the Richmond Crusade for voters, and the New Journal and Guide. Both highlight Wagner’s experience in the Warner and Kaine administrations, and stress her commitment to create new jobs and spread opportunity to all Virginians.
RICHMOND – Today, former Secretary of Finance Jody Wagner announced her campaign would begin airing ads on Northern Virginia cable stations. Last Thursday, the campaign announced its first TV buy in the Charlottesville, Norfolk, and Richmond markets.
