Democratic lieutenant governor nominee Jody M. Wagner yesterday challenged Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, the Republican incumbent, to five debates to be held in different regions of the state.
A spokesman for Bolling noted that “we look forward to a rigorous discussion of the candidates’ qualifications, their records and their vision for the future of Virginia.”
Campaign manager Matt Wells said he had not received any communication from the Wagner campaign.
In a news release, Wagner said: “I believe it’s important that voters have a clear understanding of both candidates, including our records, priorities and visions for the future.”
She said the format and rules for the debates could be worked out by the candidates and their staffs.
Wagner proposed one debate per month for the remainder of the campaign, which would amount to five.
“I’m confident there will be opportunities for debates during the course of the campaign,” Wells said. — Tyler Whitley
